The route was a single lap half marathon with two distinct halves - the first in the urban center, the second in the more rural back roads. It was moderately hilly with a couple of notable climbs.

The atmosphere was good and it was well organized, and I really enjoyed the finish straight in particular. There was some fantastic marshals and spectators out on the course bringing the noise and encouragement and it was never confusing where the route went. Provisional results were quickly published afterwards.

A lot of the busy roads were only closed one way which meant breathing in exhaust fumes at points which wasn't ideal, also I'm sure some cars tried to ignore road closures - I saw one car do a three pointer and aggressively drive off when they realised.

Also would have been good to put the big bin bags further down the road from where water was being handed out so you have more time to drink.

It would be fair to show the results by chip time, not the gun time.

Only thing that needs improved is the congestion and lack of organisation after the finish when getting water and goodies (just before 2h always busy finish time). If you sort that out and I’d say it’s the smoothest event I’ve been to! Very well done.

It would be better to have some speakers at the back of the runner que as it was hard to hear what was being said through only the speakers at the front. At one point someone in a car ignored the road closed signs and nearly ploughed into all the runners on severalls business park, the Marshals were amazing and finally stopped them but feel in certain part no cars should be allowed at all as a lot safer.

1. Places should be shown by chip time too on timing. The start is very congested and I was 4 mins getting over the start line of which not chip placing was available
2. Consider staggering start in waves as run was very congested until the high street. Lots of stop starting and tripping over runners due to volume of people
3. Get Colchester Council to lobby Essex highways for full road closures. It’s a Sunday morning for around 2 hours! The driving of people even though we were on a keep left run was terrible. They would run you over if it meant they could speed past! It’s a fantastic event for the town and brings a lot to the town and its economy and a couple of hours of inconvenience once a year on a pre planned Sunday shouldn’t be an issue!

Moved from US to UK a year and a half ago and favorite race we have run here yet. Generally not much would say to improve on. The size, route, support etc were all great. The only thing I would consider is the traffic/parking before was a bit confusing and tough and might could use a bit more directing. But really thanks for a great race!

Would be good if the pacers had flags or something at the beginning - really hard to find them at the start line

Want waves in starts to spread amount of people first few miles was horrible. Also the pacers to have tall flags like other half’s I’ve run to be clear to see.

I do this event every year & I love the atmosphere & support all the way round. I love seeing my own local area as I do the course & I would say it is friendly to beginners & competitive runners alike.
